The Project
Powder coating a metal door canopy for residential use in Buckinghamshire
The Challenge
Solid wood front doors are a desirable feature. They are strong, secure, durable and thermally efficient. What’s more, they add a touch of quality to the front entrance of a home. However, in a spell of wet weather, the doors do expand and are prone to sticking. This was the issue being faced by a Buckinghamshire resident every winter.
To resolve the issue, this customer decided to order a metal door canopy to cover the arched doorway. This fixture would protect the entrance from full exposure to the weather. They had found a manufacturer to make a best-fit frame and cover in steel. However, they wanted a metal coating to minimise maintenance and maximise longevity, which the manufacturer couldn’t offer.
The Solution
Salesmade were approached to provide metal powder coating for this bespoke door canopy. We’ve provided an in-house metal finishing service for over three decades and were happy to assist.
Firstly, we advised the customer that we could apply an undercoat of a highly durable primer for long-lasting protection. Then, we presented the customer with multiple colour samples, allowing them to select their desired tone for the powder coating.
With their selection made, we primed and then powder coated the door canopy in RAL7010, this tone is also called Tarpaulin Grey. It coordinated with tiles on the front step of the property and lead work on the house.
The Outcome
Once powder coated, we inspected, packed and delivered the finished fixture to the customer, ready for installation. The image shows how the shadow of the canopy shields the door from the sun. This too will reduce the maintenance needed on the door.
