In a bid to cut costs without cutting corners, we’ve invested in a new automatic saw cutting machine. Installed at the end of 2024, this provides a cost-effective way to produce multiple parts. Let us tell you more about the benefits this brings to you and us.
For decades, we’ve used one of our three manual twin-head cutting machines to reduce long bar extrusions into multiple small parts. When operated by our experienced machinists, this equipment has proved reliable and accurate for manufacturing aluminium parts. However, we’re receiving more orders for high-volume pieces and we need to keep prices competitive. As a result, we found a solution.
Manual Vs Automatic Saw Cutting
A major advantage of this latest addition to the workshop is the reduction in labour required for some jobs. To operate a manual machine, some operations would require two men to complete; one to operate the saw and another to pack off the pieces as they’re cut. However, it’s a different story with the new automatic saw. Once loaded and with the measurements and quantities set, the machine pushes through the extruded length. It automatically makes precision cuts until the required quantity is achieved. As a result, one machinist can handle the full process, removing and cleaning cut sections and replacing bulk lengths until the order is complete.
Not only do we save on labour costs, but this continuous process is also faster, allowing us to ramp up productivity. It enables us to offer you a faster turnaround time.
What Are The Maximum Dimensions for Automatic Saw Cutting?
Our new saw cutting machine safely and accurately divides lengths with a maximum width of 150mm and height of 125mm. The majority of our aluminium extrusions are within these parameters. For smaller dimensions, it is possible to load multiple lengths to be cut each time the saw drops.
In terms of cut lengths, the machine cuts an accurate tolerance of +/-0.2mm any size between 5mm and 750mm.
Practical & Productive Machining
One of the factors influencing our purchasing decision was the machine we selected has the same mechanics and components as our manual saws. This meant the team needed minimal training to safely operate it. What’s more, it streamlines our stocks of TCT saw blades and consumables required to keep the saw up and running.
After initial test pieces to train the team, we started manufacturing. 10,000 aluminium clips and 12,000 aluminium spacer packaging clips were produced in record time! Shortly after, we were asked to quote for redesigning an aluminium extrusion and supplying 50,000 units. With the new machine up and running, we were confident in our abilities to achieve this in the timeframe and provide a competitive price.
