Strengthened By Sustainability
Commitment to CSR Accreditation
Over the past decade, we have focused on ways to ensure the long-term vision for our company and operations. Our belief is that we are strengthened by sustainability. We’re delighted that our actions have resulted in Salesmade Ltd becoming a CSR Associate. This is the first milestone in our public commitment to CSR Accreditation.
What is CSR Accreditation?
CSR Accreditation is a framework to determine good practices in environmental and social responsibility. It is based on four pillars; environment, workplace, community and philanthropy against which your policies, workplace structure, practices and management are assessed.
In addition, the assessment criteria tie into Global Sustainable Development Goals, which include:
- Responsible consumption and production
- Quality education
- Good health & well-being
- Decent work & economic growth
- Reduced inequalities
We’ve undertaken multiple steps to improve our environmental and social responsibility and felt that CSR Accreditation offered a way to determine that we were on the right track. Having become a CSR Associate Member, we’ll complete a 3-month consultation period. This involves independent audits and assessments.
Our intention is to evidence that our manufacturing business is underpinned by sustainable foundations. We believe this is essential for gaining a competitive advantage.
Environmental CSR Pillar
Fortunately, aluminium is infinitely recyclable, so we’re typically working with recycled material. That’s a big tick on responsible sourcing, but we’ve also considered every aspect of our processes.
Energy efficiency has been a primary area of focus and we’ve taken multiple actions. These include a full installation of LED lighting and investment in machinery. We’ve also installed a system to capture and transfer heat generated in our processes to keep workspaces warm.
Minimising waste has also been big on the agenda. So, we’ve been sorting and monitoring waste to maximise recycling opportunities.
Workplace CSR Pillar
We have a dedicated team, many of who have been with the company for several decades. As managers, we make it our business to know everyone’s skills and we’re proactive in offering training and development opportunities. We’ve also met all the requirements to offer modern apprenticeship placements to upskill the next generation.
Investment in our factory is essential for long-term sustainability. We’ve modernised all areas, from fabrication to the powder coating bays and assembly room to ensure they are well-equipped and efficient.
Community CSR Pillar
We’ve taken a proactive approach to developing partnerships within our community. This includes becoming the Business Development Partner for Aylesbury United. In this role, we’re building links between local companies and the club. We’re also a Corporate Sponsor of Youth Concern in Aylesbury. As the majority of our team lives and works in the town, it’s important to contribute to the wider community.
Philanthropy CSR Pillar
Building on the community pillar, we hold fundraising events throughout the year. Recently, 7 members of the team volunteered to compete in a local 10K race. Most were inexperienced runners, yet everyone committed to training and crossed the line. This raised £825 for Youth Action.
Sustainable Aluminium Manufacturer
There is no doubt that the demand for aluminium has been strengthened by sustainability. No other metal is so widely recycled. Building on this with our journey to CSR Accreditation will continue our commitment to measure, monitor and improve. It’s all about being a responsible manufacturer that is fit for the future.
